Both Kleene and Rosser explain how they came to do graduate work at Princeton and how they came to be interested in logic. Both describe taking courses from Alonzo Church and Kurt Gòˆdel. Kleene and Rosser discuss some of the other logicians doing work at that time, including W.V.O. Quine and Haskell Curry, and describe their Ph. D. work under Church. Kleene and Rosser talk about their own contributions and those of Church, E.L. Post, and Alan Turing to the clarification of the notion of computability. They talk, too, about the founding of the Journal of Symbolic Logic.

J. Barkley Rosser was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1907. He earned both his Bachelor of Science (1929) and Master of Science (1931) from the University of Florida. He obtained his Ph. D. from Princeton University in 1934. Subsequently, Rosser taught at Princeton, Harvard, and Cornell and spent the latter part of his career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
